encaustic

as I prepare for my show this weekend
I found an old painting (below) that I never finished
I decided to work on it some more
rubbing on reds and brown
using a heat gun to melt and blend
it started to look like the fires burning in fort mcmurray
a little more wax and gold paint finished it off

stencil designs by tracy moreau

at our last visit, my friend tracy moreau, gave me a stack of her wonderful stencils
i couldn't wait to use them so i got to work on one of encaustic painting that need that
little something to finish it off
just a subtle corner design , with a white on white effect using pan pastels
I think it finishes it off , perfect!

thanks tracy, can't wait to play some more!

powertex, wire and beads, oh my

working on a special project
using powertex, beads and wire

I usually cover the wings with cheesecloth but for some reason
I just didn't like how it was looking
after a few days of wondering what to do it hit me
why should they have to be covered, so I painted the wire wings
and looked at it for a few days , I liked it but thought it could use
a bit of sparkle
so out came the beads and wire !

wild wire project

another challenge from my friend carmi
I was given a small flower maker component from John Bead
I knew I wanted to use wire and found some seed beads to match
I used 18 gauge wire from dazzle it to make the base
and 24 gauge wire for the rest
i just started with the "branches", 10 of green , 10 blue
then doubled them up to make 10 branches
 to fill in the gaps
it looked a bit busy but i didn't want to waste all that work so
i hit the "point of no return" and took it over the top

pinterest interest

one of my favorite places for inspiration is pinterest
it is the best eye candy!
no matter what you are looking for , you can find it
art, diy, garden, sewing, how to's,

whenever i decide to paint ,
the first thing i think about is color scheme
design seeds has some of the best
(i have a board dedicated to color)
once i find something appealing, that's my palette
---------------
it's great when you have to kill time waiting somewhere
i just flip through the home feed
every once and i while i see something from my blog
so cool

this copper necklace i made 4 years ago is always poping up
and this encaustic painting  from 5 years ago
seems to be very popular
