encaustic meltdown

it's been months since i've had a chance to paint
with no inspiration , i had to just sit and see what happens
blue is such a soothing palette and a good place to start
using the iron and heat gun i sat , just playing around, watching the
wax move to the heat
it was a good day, three different boards
not sure if they are finished yet but
they have inspired to me go a little bigger

not long ago,
john bead outlet had a sale on these wonderful bezels
buy 2 get 10 free
its always good to have a stash on hand
for when an idea hits you
i also pick ups a variety of crosses at bead dynasty

going through my stash i also found some acrylic flowers
which look great with the necklace below

i know how difficult this is
and my hope is to inspire her to brave each new day
no matter what it brings because tomorrow will get a little bit easier

last year she purchased below
"eclipse" , 12x24 encaustic on wood panel
i think they make a great pair

encaustic and pan pastels

the thing i love the most about painting with encaustic is
after 15 years there is always something new to learn
last month i was visiting an artist in the distillery
joya paul , i really loved the look of her new work and
she was happy to share her process with me
usually i would use oil paints or oil pastels
to rub in and add color

i love the translucent effect it give to the wax

encaustic and metal inspiration

"awen"
12 x 24
sometimes inspiration can come from
a basket filled with rusted metal or a book
this time it was both

encaustic

my latest paintings where inspired by my country drive to owen sound on the may longweekend
the skies went from grey to blue, the fields where array of greens and along side the roads
the remnants of last fall
------
the foreground grasses where picked from the garden at the cottage
and the rusted nails used for the fence i found at a yard sale along the way

encaustic

last month, my drive to the cottage was so inspiring
the sky was blue with big fluffy clouds, the fields, brilliant shades of green
and once i saw the bay i was so relaxed
the water always sooths my soul

love, love , love shibori

this time last year , my friend carmi introduced me to soutache
little did she know that she was opening pandora's box
I quickly became addicted
-------
well, here we go again
recently carmi gave me three rolls of shibori ribbon
i've seen it in some jewelry on pinterest and really liked the look
(i never got around to finding it)

once i gathered all the elements i thought would look nice together
i pondered, hesitating really, scissors in hand but not making the cut!
its so expensive, questions running through my head
and finally after weeks of contemplating i did it
using a medium shaped felt  heart i just starting sewing
adding bead , rhinestones , pearls and some trim

once i finished i thought it would make a nice necklace

encaustic painting and finding my muse

recently i spent a week at my friends cottage north of owen sound
it was a wonderful week
the weather was a bit distracting
i spent saturday morning going to yard sales
sunday to the flea market and inglis falls
and Tuesday at the keady market
and i still managed to get 9 paintings done
above are the first 2, at first i struggled to find my muse
but eventually she showed up and i created these 2 painting

encaustic

this years inspiration was definitely trees
and one of my favorite poems
by e.e. cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
 i am never without it
 (anywhere i go you go,my dear;
and whatever is done by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world ,my true)
and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and
whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
  and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

a week of painting

i'm feeling truly bless and grateful to have a wonderful friend who owns this
fantastic cottage on georgian bay

it was a perfect week of painting, waking up to the sunrise, walks on the beach,
naps, the constant sound of the waves , driving the back roads taking photos
no worries and a little r & r

the best view for inspiration and Sidney (bottom right) was great company
i finished 13 painting with 2 more in the works

a sneak peak at all the wonderful texture i created
-----------
as soon as i go through over 500 hundred photos
i will post again

guardian angel

"guardian angel"
encaustic on wood panel
what a difference a year makes
and I couldn't have made it without the help of so many friends
to say thank you I made several paintings
the above was for my friend catherine {cat}
she was my guardian angel
every weeknite for nineteen weeks while in hospital
she visited me
taking care of me, bringing me food, clothing, treats
whatever I needed even if I didn't know it!!
helped me with the "bumps" in the road
listened, laugh and cried
my cheerleader, advocate and germ nazi
I am truly grateful

a few details showing all the wonderful texture
it is a statue in a local cemetery
