encaustic class

for this months class i was still in the recycle mode
going through my studio to find unfinished canvases
i found plenty that needed to be completed or scrapped down and reused
the above canvas had layers of texture
once i hit it with the iron i soon realized what was hidden beneath
a collage of old maps and book pages
this inspired me to dig through my stash of found objects, metal and embellishments

details showing the exposed maps and book pages ( top and bottom left)
texture (bottom right) and
new elements of toothpicks, wire , copper sheeting and rusted washer

flat leather pendents

i've been enjoying working with the flat leather from metal complex
after making several bracelets for my friend carmi  I moved on to necklace's
and then with some leftover pieces i got the idea to make these pendants
using some suede lace and beads to combine them together

powertex sculpture

last month i was fortunate to have brigette thompson instruct me
in many techniques with powertex
our first project was to construct and dress a sculpture
making a wire skeleton, wrapped with foil and masking tape
and then the fun of "mummy" wrapping with cotton strips and powertex
( it reminded me of making mud pies as a kid)
once the sculpture was hardened it was fun to "dress her up"
i chose to leave her hair natural and created a book out of cardboard and paper
and highlighted with a bit of gold powder and varnish
next post i will show you my project with stone art and powertex

creating for carmi

i  am so happy to be challenged by my friend carmi
she sits me at a table in her studio with some amazing products and says
"what can you do with this"
sometimes i can only feature one element and other times i can mix and match
featuring
 aluminum  wire
flat leather
faux suede tassels
suede lace cord
neo chain
plus all kinds of findings
she displays my work on several of her wonderful blogs

i am truly blessed to have such a great friend and a wonderful opportunity
to create every day!!
